MY AUTOLIFE | SUBI MANANDHARPosted On: December 29, 2018 By : AutoLife Team
Miss Subi Manandhar is a certified makeup artist and a Fashion Designer. She is currently studying fashion retailing and merchandising. She has been into automobiles from a very young age, in fact at the age of 24 she already has 10 years of riding experience. Her father and brother sharing the same passion as her further enhanced her interest in automobiles. Miss Subi has a very outstanding list of vehicles parked in her garage and most men will definitely be jealous of her collection. So we talked with Miss Subi about her interests and how it all began.
HOW MUCH OF AN AUTO ENTHUSIAST ARE YOU?
Talking about enthusiasm, I’m very obsessed with automobiles. It all started since I was little because of my dad and elder brother. Moreover, I was influenced by my elder brother who’s a motor head; they always encouraged me to do adventurous stuffs like “Kta le garnu sakne activities” in typical term used by our society. And I always felt like if my brother can do it then I can do it too. A girl riding a bike is still kind of rare and some people do not even allow their daughters/sister to ride bikes, but they never stopped believing in me. So, would say I inherited their ways including how they keep their vehicles well maintained.
PREVIOUSLY, HOW MANY VEHICLES HAVE YOU OWNED AND WHAT VEHICLES ARE CURRENTLY PARKED IN YOUR GARAGE?
I don’t exactly remember the number but yes, we had a lot. We used to buy different models as part of our thrill and later we used to sell it. On the other hand, keeping many motors would be very difficult as well. Currently, Honda CBR 600 RR, Honda CD 125, Honda Steed 400, Honda XL 185, Suzuki GN 250, Suzuki GN 125, Yamaha DT 100 Enduro, Toyota MR2 Supercharger and Hyundai i10 are parked in my garage.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH DRIVING/RIDING?
Well, the first encounter with riding is something that I hold very close to my heart and due to which I’m here. As I already mentioned, my brother taught me to ride a bike. One day he casually asked me to go on a ride with him. He said, when you can ride a scooter you can definitely ride a bike too, it’s only about balancing and the gears. He sat on the back and instructed about the clutch and everything. I did it and the chills I got deep down my veins are still fresh in my thoughts. Basically, he encouraged me that day out of nowhere but till now I feel if he tells me anything I can do it.
DO YOU PREFER DRIVING BY YOURSELF OR DO YOU HAVE A DRIVER?
I do have a driver but I always prefer driving/riding by myself because I am somewhat of a control freak and I don’t trust anyone’s driving unless it’s my dad, brother or someone who’s very experienced at driving. It really feels weird when you know how to drive. Well I do have trust issues but I have never been a passenger in anyone’s vehicle till date except my dad and my brother.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF OWNING A PREMIUM SET OF WHEELS?
This is a fun question. The pros of owning a premium wheels maintains my unique personality even in the crowded traffic. It gives me a cool look and when people see me riding those wheels and being a girl leaves their mouth open. And yes, where there are pros there are cons as well. They are very expensive and hard to take care of and there are always insecurities when I have to park in public places; getting scratched or damages can be very hurtful. And in general people acknowledge me from my helmet and bikes so they poke me through social media. You never know who you inspire and being a girl and being a badass there’s nothing wrong with that.
TILL DATE, ON WHICH CAR HAVE YOU HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE DRIVING?
It would definitely be Toyota MR2 Super Charger because I’m a very big fan of vintage motors and speed.
IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE, WHICH CAR OR BIKE WOULD YOU WANT TO OWN AS A DREAM CAR AND BIKE?
If I had to choose a car then it would be Peugeot Rcz R. I don’t know why it feels so tempting like it’s only made for me and matches my personality. But being practical for Nepal’s road, I would love to own a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 as my dream car and my dream bike would be Kawasaki Ninja H2.
WHAT IS ONE OF THE CRAZIEST THINGS THAT YOU HAVE DONE BEHIND A STEERING WHEEL?
Umm, I don’t remember doing any crazy thing behind the wheels but that doesn’t mean I don’t have fun. I’m very old school so I tend to follow rules and stay in rules consequently, I don’t do any crazy stuffs behind the wheels.
WHERE DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST DESTINATION TO DRIVE/RIDE IN NEPAL
I have only been to few places outside valley so I don’t have much experience about it but yes I think “Sinduli Highway” is the best destination for me.
IF YOU WERE GIVEN COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE COUNTRY, WHAT CHANGES WOULD YOU BRING ABOUT IN THE AUTOMOTIVE SCENE?
There are a lot of things I would like to change if I had the authority:
1) Firstly i would construct the roads as per the tax we pay
2) Make tunnels where it’s necessary like the road in abroad
3) Make the traffic rules more strict where people should also follow the rules
4) Keep speed limits in highways
5) Make a rule where each person has limited vehicle
6) As per the government’s rule we have to pay double tax for 20 years old vehicles of which I would lessen the tax.
7) Lastly, give priority to vintage vehicle which is in condition and scrap the vehicles which throws smoke.
