Mercedes-Benz GLE coupé revealedPosted On: December 12, 2014 By : AutoLife Team
Mercedes’ answer to the BMW X6 is finally here. Mercedes-Benz has combined two classes of vehicle – each with its own distinct style – to make a new model, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé. The sporty nature of a coupé is combined with the striking characteristics of a robust SUV.The GLE marks the first model in the AMG Sports line that will fill the price and performance gap between normal Mercedes vehicles and their AMG counterparts. It is based on the brand’s normal ML class of SUVs, which will soon change their name to GLE. This new model can be said as a direct competitor to the BMW X6.The vehicle is powered by a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine that makes 362 hp of power and 520 Nm of torque and further bolted to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle comes standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive that distributes torque 40:60 between the front and rear wheels. The top-of-the-range model GLE 450 AMG comes with attractive features like an AMG body kit, 21-inch AMG wheels with an option for 22-inch versions, model-specific front and rear fascias, the air suspension and continuously adaptive dampers to name a few. Safety packages include cruise control, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert and pre-collision braking. There’s also a parking assistance package that adds a 360-degree view. The GLE450 coupe-styled crossover comes with five drive modes: individual, comfort, sport, sport plus and slippery. Mercedes is also offering an air suspension for the first time combined with a continuously adjusting damper system to enhance vehicle stability. The system adjusts in real time based on feedback from a steer angle sensor, four turning angle sensors, and the current driving speed to determine the most appropriate level of stiffness relative to the selected drive mode.Pricing hasn’t been announced for the GLE 450 Coupe, though we expect a pricing range similar to the BMW X6, which starts at $60,000. The Mercedes model will be launched in the US market next summer.
