Renault India has revealed their new small car for the Indian market- the Kwid. The new Renault Kwid is based on the company’s CMF-A platform. CMF-A stands for Common Module Family and the A stands for Affordable. The Kwid is the first car from the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s to use this platform and will be initially built at Renault-Nissan’s Oragadam/Chennai plant in India.The Kwid will be powered by an 800cc petrol three-cylinder engine unit, with a five-speed manual gearbox. The Kwid’s SUV-inspired design is an innovation in its segment.The bold, structured grille design highlights the logo and further emphasises the Kwid’s SUV credentials, particularly from the Duster, while its headlights incorporate the brand’s new lighting signature with a C-shaped chrome trim.On the inside, the piano black centre console comes with a chrome-surround and houses the MediaNav system which comes with a seven-inch (18 cm) display, an unprecedented size for the segment. The Kwid is a 5 seater car that sports ample space inside suited for the Indian sub-continent. The company also claims the best-in-class legroom and knee room along with integrated headrests for front as well as rear seats. To keep the entry level model price low, Renault will offer the Kwid will offer driver-side air bags in the higher-price variants only. The car will be launched in India during festive season.
