It’s that time of the year again when we bring you our pick of the most exciting and anticipated new vehicle launches at the NADA Auto Show. NADA Auto Show, Nepal’s one and only auto exhibition presented by Nepal Automobiles Dealers’ Association and managed by Global Exposition & Management Services (GEMS), is scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 4th at the capital’s Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall. Like in the past year, this year’s show will be no exception as major companies have already geared up to showcase their exciting new products. As the capital prepares for this mega extravaganza, here are the models that we know and suspect are coming to the limelight at the show.
TVS: APACHE RTR200 4V
Naked bikes are the ‘in’ thing in Nepalese market right now especially in the entry-level performance segment. Hence, in order to shake up the competition, TVS Motorcycles will be looking forward to launch the much-awaited Apache RTR 200 4V at this years’ show.
Based on the ‘RTR’ platform, the 200 4V will be powered by a 197.75 cc, SOHC, four-valve, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine, with a carburetor, that will churn out 20.2bhp of power and 18.1 Nm of torque. With a Kerb weight of 148kg and a claimed 0-60kmph acceleration time of a mere 3.9 seconds, the RTR 200 4V will be a quick performer in its segment. The RTR 200 4V will promise a tough challenge to Bajaj and KTM.
The much-awaited quarter-litre motorcycle from Mahindra stable – the Mojo will make its Nepal debut at the NADA Auto Show. The sports-tourer is powered by a 300c, liquid-cooled, EFI single-cylinder engine which delivers 27 bhp of power and 30 Nm of torque.
The technologically advanced ‘Mojo’ aims to set new benchmarks in styling, performance, and ride quality.
The German marquee is geared up to bring the company’s first sub-compact sedan, the Ameo, at this years’ NADA Auto Show. The Volkswagen Ameo is based on the same platform as the Polo and shares similar visual cues except for projector headlamps, revised bumper and horizontal fog lamps.
The Ameo will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI engine that also powers the Polo in VW’s lineup and is tuned to produce 73bhp and 110Nm of torque. The motor is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. In terms of features, Volkawagen has loaded the Ameo with several segment-first features like cruise control, rain sensing vipers, anti-pinch power windows, front arm rest, and Static cornering light.
Thanks to the success enjoyed by pick-up trucks in the Nepalese market, Volkswagen finally looks keen on landing its flagship premium pickup- the Amarok in the domestic market. Currently the Amarok is available in Australia, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, South Africa, and throughout Europe and South America.
The Amarok range consists of single cab and double cab, combined with either rear-wheel drive or 4motion four-wheel-drive, and is powered by turbocharged gasoline or turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines.
After gaining a commendable share in the premium scooter segment, Italian manufacturer Piaggio will be further strengthening its position in the Nepalese market with the aggressive launch of three exclusive products. As per our sources, Piaggio is set to launch the exclusive Vespa 946, the GTS 300 and the sporty Aprilia SR 150 at the NADA Auto Show.
The name Vespa 946 references the year – 1946 – that this iconic and world famous scooter was first made. From the saddle support to the inserts on the side, in every centimeter, the 946 draws attention to revolutionary design.
The 946’s 125 cc, single-cylinder 4-stroke engine, with 3-valve injection and bearings makes 11.7 bhp of power and 10.3 Nm of torque, and is mated to a CVT automatic transmission.
Is this the most technological Vespa ever built? Yes. It’s the first to use aluminium for the side pods, the front bumper and the handlebar. The other design highlights include horizontal rear shock absorber with progressive linkage, LCD instrumentation cluster, the composite 12” wheels – a first for a small Vespa – and the full LED headlamp. The Vespa 946 comes with safety features such as Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Traction Control. The scooter rides on large 12-inch wheels and is also fitted with dual disc brakes.
The GTS 300, on the other hand, is the most powerful scooter from Vespa. The GTS 300 is powered by a 278cc, single-cylinder engine developing 21bhp and 22.3Nm of torque.
The scooter features an all-steel body which Vespa claims helps in the handling dynamics and high speed stability of the scooter. It features LCD display in the cluster, houses fuel gauge, trip meter, odometer and clock, and comes with an instrument cluster that combines analogue and digital inlay. The GTS 300 also has traction control and a two-channel ABS system in its list of exclusive features.
APRILIA SR 150:
The SR 150 will mark the entry of Aprilia-branded scooters in Nepal. The Aprilia SR 150 follows an edgy and contemporary European design language.The sporty styling should make the SR150 a hit among the Nepalese youngsters.
The SR 150 will be powered by a 154.4cc 3-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that will produce around 11.8bhp of power and 11Nm of torque, while paired to a CVT unit. braking will be done by a 220mm front disc brake and a 130mm rear drum brake.
HONDA MOTORCYCLES: NAVI
Honda Navi was, undoubtedly, one of the major highlights of the recently concluded 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The Honda Navi is India’s first two-wheeler crossover that has been designed to offer power of a bike and comfort and practicality of a scooter. Honda claims that the Navi comprises the company’s Fun DNA, and in its standard form it’s ‘Fun to See’ and ‘Fun to Ride’. Targeted primarily at the youth, it is an amalgamation of scooter and bike sharing cues with both. The Navi is the first 100 percent Honda R&D model in India, from concept development to commercial production.
Mechanically, the Navi is powered by the 110 cc single-cylinder engine with the HET (Honda Eco Technology) which is capable of producing 7.83 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 8.96 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm mated to the V-matic transmission and has a top speed of 81 km/h.
SUZUKI CARS: VITARA BREZZA
The Vitara Brezza is easily among the most-anticipated car launches at the NADA Auto Show 2016. The Vitara Brezza which marks Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the highly-competitive sub- compact SUV segment is also expected to stir the segment with its attractive pricing. Aesthetically, the Vitara Brezza races ahead than its competition with its visual appeal and class leading futures offered at multiple trim levels.
Under the hood, the Brezza will be powered by the versatile 1.3-litre DDis 200 engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Expect the Brezza to be offered in all six variants – LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi and ZDi+.
Renault India, one of the fastest growing automotive companies in India, will make their Nepal debut with Advanced Automobiles Pvt. Ltd (the sole authorised dealers of Renault vehicles in Nepal)at the NADA Auto Show.
Renault Kwid, a compact hatchback which has been designed and developed by Renault’s global teams including India, looks set to redefine the conventional notions of the mini car segment in Nepal with an attractive styling led by its unique SUV design cues, segment-leading technology, superior driving dynamics and optimal fuel efficiency, all offered at an attractive price. Renault KWID also boasts of several features which are best not only in hatchbacks, but also cars in segments above. They include a best-in-class ground clearance of 180 mm and aboot capacity of 300 litres with a 7 inch touchscreen Media Nav system and a digital instrument cluster.
The length and width of the car is also one of the best in entry and midsized hatchbacks. The Kwid is powered by an all-new 799cc 3 cylinder petrol engine which delivers a power of 53 bhp @ 5678 RPM and a peak torque of 72 Nm @ 4386 RPM
Over the years, Duster has firmly etched Renault on India’s automotive map and has achieved a cult status. With the new facelift and several technical and design enhancements offered at a compelling price, the New Duster is expected to lead Renault’s expansion plans in the Nepalese market as well. As for the changes, the new Duster Range has over 32 completely new styling and technical changes. It also comes with Nepal’s first 6 speed Easy–R Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology, offering the best combination of performance, convenience, and fuel efficiency.
Under the hood, the new Duster will be powered by a 1.5 litre dCi disel engine which will deliver maximum power of 110PS@4000rpm and peak torque of 245Nm@1750rpm and a 1.6 litre petrol which will churn out maximum power of 102 bhp @ 5850 RPM and peak torque of 145 Nm @ 3750 RPM.
Tata Motors Nepal is rumored to take the wraps off its new hatchback Tiago. With design inputs from Tata Motors’ Pune, UK and Italy design studios, the Tiago follows the company’s new IMPACT design language. The Tiago comes with a sculpted body with sharp lines, signature hexagon grill and new multi-faceted Tata emblem as well as inviting interiors. The Tiago is also one of the most feature-packed cars in its segment.
The Tata Tiago will be offered with a petrol powerplant initially – a 1.2L three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine with 84 bhp & 114 Nm. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
ROYAL ENFIELD: HIMALAYAN
Vivek Automobiles Pvt. Ltd (a sister concern of MV Dugar Group) is set to unveil the much-awaited Royal Enfield Himalayan in the Nepalese market. The Himalayan has been one of the most anticipated launches of 2016 and is the first purpose built motorcycle to be introduced by any Indian manufacturer.
Powering the adventure motorcycle is a 411cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine tuned to dish out 24.5bhp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm torque between 4,000 and 4,500rpm, paired with five-speed transmission. It is built around a new double-cradle chassis, designed by Royal Enfield-owned Harris Performance and measures 2,190mm in length, 840mm in width, and 1,360mm in height (fly-screen top). It has a wheelbase of 1,465mm and offers a ground clearance of 220mm
HERO ELECTRIC: MAXI
The Maxi scooter is the company’s flagship scooter with sturdy design, extra-large foot board for storage and portable battery for charging. The Maxi scooter has a top speed of 25 km/hr with upto 70kms of range per charge.Other features of the Maxi scooter include carry home battery set, high torque controller, corrosion/UV Resistant paint, Reinforced high strength steel chassis, storage capacity of 20-25 litres, 160mm ground clearance and 16-inch wheel size.
Features of the E-sprint scooter include a top speed of 45 km/hr, anti-skid disc brakes, front telescopic suspension, PC head lamp for bright vision, odometer to clock distance, 150mm ground clearance and a kerb weight of 106 kg.
Kia Motors Nepal is all prepared to launch the third generation Carnival at this year’s auto show. According to the company, the 2016 Kia Carnival is designed to offer amazing driving experience and quality features.
Featuring a bold and distinctive crossover utility design, with a substantially improved interior, the new Carnival offers buyers both a greater use of space and range of safety technologies than ever before. The all new Carnival will be available with an improved 2.2-litre R series common rail diesel engine that delivers a combination of superb fuel consumption and excellent drivability.
Kia boasts that its Picanto remains the most stylish car in its class and they maintain this by giving it a new wider grille and flared bumpers along with a reshaped “tiger nose” upper grille, a more rounded lower grille and smaller fog lights, and a sportier rear bumper design.
Kia Motors is also gearing up to launch the 2016 Soul EV, Kia’s first ever all-electric, zero-emissions car.
Featuring a high-capacity 192-cell 27 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, 212 km of the Soul EV’s drive range is now certified. Key enablers for the Soul EV’s outstanding drive range are industry-leading 200 Wh/kg cell energy density and a number of state-of-the art energy-saving features such as the new heat pump, smart air intake control system and a new individual ventilation system that ensure maximum driving range without losing energy for heating, ventilation and air- conditioning (HVAC). The Soul EV also employs regenerative braking to capture and recycle into the battery the kinetic energy generated while the car is coasting and braking.
Power comes from an 110ps electric motor, producing a generous and instantly available 285 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels via a single speed constant ratio gear reduction unit. Ensuring that the Soul EV retains all the ‘fun-to-drive’ character of the regular Soul, rapid acceleration to 100 kph is predicted to take 11.2 seconds, while top speed is in the region of 145 kph.
Charging is accomplished by plugging the Soul EV into any standard household electricity supply. Recharging times are up to five hours for a fully depleted battery using a 6.6 kW AC slow charger. An 80 per cent charge can be achieved in as little as 25 minutes with a 100 kW charger (if available) or 33 minutes using a 50 kW DC charger.
TOYOTA: INNOVA CRYSTA

The Innova Crysta comes with an All-New Frame and an all-new 2.8 L diesel engine for the first time with an All-New 6 Speed Automatic Transmission with sequential shift. It also offers an all-new 2.4 L diesel engine with an all-new 5 speed Manual Transmission. The Innova Crysta is rumored to be available in two grades with an automatic transmission (Zx&Gx) and four grades with manual transmission (Zx, Vx, Gx & G). The MPV gives class leading performance of 172 bhp and 360 Nm torque while offering fuel economy of 14.29 Km/l for the 2.8L6 speed automatic transmission variant and 15.10 Km/l for the 2.4L 5 speed manual transmission variant. (As per ARAI certification). The petrol variant is expected in the near future.
