Entry-level MPVs in Nepal

Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) are considered great family cars. They are different from SUVs mainly in terms of their body type, size, and drive system. MPVs are built like a van and they tend to be front-wheel drive vehicles. They usually have large interiors that offer three-row seats and they can accommodate five to eight persons (depending on seating configuration). The second- and third-row seats are usually foldable, in order to provide ample storage spaces.

Even though Nepali roads are often dominated by compact SUVs or hatchbacks, there are a fair amount of MPVs that have garnered enough attention from Nepalis. Brands like Renault, Maruti Suzuki, BYD, and Mahindra have been offering their entry-level MPV models in Nepal.

Renault Triber

The Triber was introduced in Nepal in January 2020, as a five-seater MPV. Later, the company launched models with six/seven-seat configurations. The compact MPV is four metres long and offers seven seating configurations, leaving 84 litres of boot space, which is expandable to 625 litres (with folded 3rd row seats).

Powering the MPV is a 1.0L, VVT engine that is mated to either a five-speed manual or Easy-R automatic transmission.

Among the MPV’s notable features are its easy fix seats, LED instrument cluster, twin AC vents, a 8-inch touchscreen ‘Media Nav Evolution’ system (compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), climate control, tilt-steering wheel, seat height adjust, power windows, powered ORVMs, and rear defogger.
