INTERVIEW: ABHINAV JB RANA| HUSQVARNA NEPAL

Husqvarna Motorcycles GmbH is a company that designs, engineers, manufactures and distributes Motocross, Enduro, Supermoto and Street motorcycles. The company began producing motorcycles in 1903 at Huskvarna, Sweden, and is owned by KTM AG. The brand Husqvarna was introduced in Nepal by the same group of people who introduced Ducati and Benelli.

We got an opportunity to talk with Abhinav JB Rana the Director of Husqvarna Nepal and here’s what  he had to say about Husqvarna and he shed some light about the brand and their future endeavors.

HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO INTRODUCE THE HUSQVARNA BRAND IN NEPAL AND WHAT IS YOUR STRATEGY BRAND BEHIND IT?

We have been in the business of premium motorcycles from the past and had some prior knowledge about the segment with couple of years of experience behind us. Thus we thought to introduce a new premium brand of motorcycle in the Enduro segment and while upon our research in this segment, we found the name ‘Husqvarna’, so we wanted to introduce it.

ARE YOU FACING ANY DIFFICULTY TO CREATE THE BRAND IDENTITY IN THE NEPALESE MARKET?

The name Husqvarna still has not been known to all the Nepali bike enthusiasts, but the Enduro enthusiasts definitely know about the Husqvarna motorcycles. Our team is dedicating its fullest to create a brand name for Husqvarna in the Nepalese market.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE USP OF THE HUSQVARNA MOTORCYCLE COMPARED TO THE OTHER’S COMPETITORS IN THIS SEGMENT?

I don’t think there are any competitors in the premium Enduro segment. But speaking specifically about the segment, it is light-weight and the components used for the bikes are all top-of-the-line. As the components used in the bikes are high quality products, it affects in the price of the motorcycle as well. Husqvarna is a premium bike and the market share for this segment is growing rapidly with more and more bike enthusiasts looking for better options.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NEPALESE MARKET IS LIKE, IT IS VALUE CONSCIOUS OR PRICE SENSITIVE?

The Nepalese Market is definitely price sensitive and it makes a big difference while pricing the motorcycles. Our other products are also on its way, the street version motorcycles from Husqvarna. Currently, both the bikes are premium products. So, the strategy of Husqvarna motorcycle is to sell both Enduro and Street bikes. We think that the price will be feasible for the motorcycle in the long run. The actual price of the motorcycle has not been fixed yet but it’s in the pipeline.

ARE YOU PLANNING TO EXPAND YOUR HUSQVARNA SHOWROOM?

Immediately, we have not thought about it. But, if the street model arrives and based of the feedback, we can think about expanding not only within the valley but also outside in other cities like Pokhara.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE AFTERSALES SERVICE TO YOU?

After sales service is very important and we are immensely focused to provide the best service to our customers. Even though we only have a few units in the market, we are 100% equipped to provide the service to our customers. One of our main engineers stayed in Austria for a month to get appropriate training and to provide better service to our customers.
