Nepal-bound Kia EV6 bags 2022 European Car of the Year award

The EV6, Kia’s first EV built on its Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), has been awarded the European Car of the Year 2022. The Nepal-bound EV6 has been voted the best, over Renault’s Megane E-TECH (second), and Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 (third).

Kia entered the Nepali EV market by launching the Soul EV. Then, it was later replaced by the Niro EV in 2019. Following the success of the two EV models, Kia is soon launching its new EV model–the EV6–in Nepal.

The EV comes with two battery options–77.4 kWh and 58 kWh–in the global market. However, in Nepal, the EV6 is likely to come equipped with the 77.4 kWh battery.

Get to know the vehicle ahead of its launch in Nepal:

Design

The EV comes with dual LED headlights with an adaptive driving beam, and LED DRLs at the front. On the rear, the EV gets a spoiler, LED combination lights, and fog lights.

The EV6’s interior provides a premium feel with its environment-friendly design–the seats are made from recycled PETs and high-quality vegan leather or suede.

The EV boasts a panoramic 24.6-inch curved display that includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system. The infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and uses voice control. Other connectivity features include bluetooth connection with voice recognition, a 6-speaker audio system, and a wireless mobile phone charger.

Battery and performance

In the global market, the EV6 comes with two battery options – a 77.4 kWh and a 58 kWh–and two electric motor options–single and dual.

In Nepal, the EV6 is likely to come with the 77.4 kWh battery with two electric motor options.

Furthermore, it is expected to come with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive systems.

The vehicle would ideally take 7 hours and 20 minutes to charge from 10-100% via a home charger and via a DC fast charger the EV can go from 10-80% in 18 minutes.
