UNVEILED: NEW SSANGYONG REXTON
Posted On: March 29, 2017 By : AutoLife TeamThe new SsangYong Rexton has been revealed ahead of its public debut at the Seoul motor show this week. The SUV will continue the Rexton name internationally – but will be called G4 Rexton in Korea – and will be available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The new Rexton will be the flagship model in SsangYong’s range, above the Korando and a new seven-seat SUV that was previewed with the XAVL concept at the Geneva motor show.
The new model gets a much more modern look, with a large, wide grille and detailed front fog lights and big headlights. Aimed at the more premium end of the market, the car maker has put an emphasis on creating a more luxurious cabin with a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
The Rexton is expected to receive all-important driver safety aids, with the inclusion of autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring and auto high-beam among others. The company will offer two engine variants; a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that can generate 178 bhp and 420Nm and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that is good for 221 bhp and 350Nm. Both will be offered with a six-speed manual, while the petrol will utilize a six-speed auto and a seven-speed auto developed by Mercedes-Benz will be fitted to the diesel model.
The new Rexton is scheduled to be revealed officially at the upcoming Seoul motor show, with international sales commencing towards the end of the year.
