RENAULT DEBUTS IN NEPAL

We don’t know what took so long, but the French are finally here. Renault, the French auto-maker, has partnered with Advanced Automobiles Pvt. Ltd (a sister concern of Vishal Group), for distribution and sales in the Nepalese market.  Initially, the product lineup will consist of Kwid and Duster, for which prices will be announced at the upcoming NADA Auto Show on August 30. Thanks to models like Duster and Kwid, Renault has firmly etched itself on India’s automotive map and has achieved a cult status.  The company is now looking to replicate the same in the Nepalese market with the introduction of two of its hugely-popular models – Kwid and Duster.

Renault’s small car for the Nepalese market – the Kwid is expected to take the Nepalese automobile industry by storm.  The Kwid redefines the entry-level hatchback segment with its SUV inspired design, first-in-segment features and affordable pricing.  Since its Indian release in autumn 2015, Renault Kwid has already sold about 100,000 cars.

Under the hood, the Renault Kwid is powered by a 799cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine which makes 54PS of maximum power output and 72Nm of peak-torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 25.17 km/l, making it the most fuel-efficient petrol car in the country. The Kwid is based on the company’s CMF-A platform where CMF-A stands for Common Module Family and the A stands for Affordable.

The Kwid stands out in the segment with its SUV-inspired design, dual tone bumpers, and other distinctive design elements. It also boasts of an ensemble of the best features that embellish its style statement – these include best-in-class exterior dimensions for a big car feel and incredible interior space, class leading wheelbase of 2422 mm, best-in-class boot space of 300 litres, extendable to 1115 litres, which offers superb flexibility and convenience.

Renault is also offering the Kwid with a 7-inch touchscreen Media-Nav system, digital instrument cluster, remote keyless entry with central locking, one-touch lane change indicator, and front fog lamps for additional illumination and visual appeal.

The iconic Renault Duster which has received a mid-cycle refresh now includes Nepal’s first 6 speed Easy – R AMT and also boasts of more than 32 new changes along with superior engineering, styling, safety and comfort features.

Renault created an all-new segment in the Indian automotive industry with Duster, which has continued to dominate the Indian roads selling over 1.4 Lakh units in India since its launch in the July 2012. It is also one of the best-selling SUV’s world-wide being marketed in over 100 countries and manufactured in 5 countries.

The New Duster with manual transmission is available in five trim levels – Standard, RXE, RXL, RXS, and RXZ, with both diesel and petrol powertrains on offer.  Along with this, the new Duster with 6 speed Easy – R AMT is only available on K9K 1.5 litre dCi engine with maximum power of 110 PS@4000rpm and peak torque of 245Nm@1750rpm and provides a fuel economy of 19.6 kmpl.  In the AWD diesel variant, the reliable and fuel efficient the K9K 1.5 litre dCi engine will deliver maximum power of 110PS@4000rpm and peak torque of 245Nm@1750rpm.

The Easy-R Automated Manual Transmission provides the convenience of a gearbox without a clutch pedal. It is fitted with computer-controlled electromechanical actuators that perform a surrogate role for the driver, declutching, changing gear and then re-engaging the clutch. The Easy-R automated manual transmission has two operational modes tailored to cover every situation: ‘Drive’ and ‘Manual’ (impulse shift).  In ‘Drive’ mode, the computer controls gearshifts according to prevailing running conditions. Changes are timed according to factors such as engine revs, vehicle speed, driving style and so on. In ‘Manual’ (impulse shift) mode, the driver assumes full control of gear changes.

The revised exterior includes completely refreshed front and rear looks to complement the emphatic 4×4 look. It now features an updated front fascia featuring a new twin-slat chrome grille, new headlamps and tail-lamps cluster, Electrically Adjustable & Foldable ORVM’s with turn indicators, LED Tail Lamps, Fog Lamps, 16” Alloy wheels, roof rails and revamped body cladding

Inside, the new Duster’s boasts of a Crimson-Black Interior Theme with sporty Double Spacer Fabric for AWD, and a Cedarwood-Black Interiors theme with Premium Embossed Fabric for other variants. This comes along with Dual Tone Soft Touch dashboard. The new Duster is also spruced up with New Rear View Camera with guidelines, New Automatic Air Conditioning, New Auto-up/down window with anti-pinch, New Media Nav, and New Centre Fascia.

According to Renault, new Duster features New ‘CMO10’ & ‘T4 E&E’ architecture enabling enhanced safety and superior ride and handling. In terms of safety, it will have a host of active and passive safety features including ABS, EBD with Brake Assist, Dual Airbags, ESP & Hill start assist.
