Tata Motors launches the Tiago.ev at INR 8.49 lakh

Tata Motors has rolled out a new EV–the Tiago.ev–in India. The new EV is based on the ICE-powered Tiago model and uses the brand’s Ziptron technology, which already underpins EVs such as the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV. The new EV is Tata’s fourth–in addition to the Nexon, Tigor, and XPRES-T–and the most affordable one in the EV lineup. The Tiago.ev has been launched in India in seven variants, at a starting price of INR 8.49 lakh.

Design

The new Tiago.ev gets a design that is similar to that of the ICE-powered Tiago model. However, the new EV gets a new closed-off front grille that features tri-arrow patterns, EV badging, and electric blue accents. For lighting, the EV comes with projector headlamps with LED DRLs and fog lamps at the front and LED brake lights and combined tail lamps at the rear. The vehicle stands on 14-inch Hyperstyle wheels.

The new EV’s interior remains unchanged from that of the petrol-powered Tiago models. The five-seater EV gets blue highlights on the dashboard, and the seats and steering wheel are leatherette-upholstered. The dashboard features a flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted control buttons, a digital instrument cluster, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system (compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).

Battery and specifications

The Tiago.ev comes with two powertrain options: medium range and long range.

The medium-range model comes powered by a 19.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack–mated to a 45 kW motor–to generate a torque of 110 Nm, and it provides a range of 250 km. The long-range model is equipped with a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is paired with a 55 kW motor, and it generates 114 Nm of torque. The larger battery pack offers a range of up to 315 km.

The Tiago.ev offers a wide range of charging options: the EV comes equipped with a 15A portable charger that fully charges the vehicle in 6.9 hours (medium-range model) and 8.7 hours (long-range model). Similarly, a 3.3 kWh wallbox charger can charge the EV from 10-100% in 5.1 and 6.4 hours, depending on the battery pack. And the 7 kWh AC charger can do the same in 2.6 and 3.6 hours. Furthermore, the DC fast charger takes only 57 minutes to charge the EV from 10-80%.
