Tata’s Nexon EV, India’s best-selling EV of 2020, launched in Nepal

Sipradi Trading, the authorised distributor of Tata Motors in Nepal, has officially launched the Tata Nexon EV at an introductory price of Rs 35,99,000. The model is available in three variants and Tata offers a warranty of eight years or 1,60,000km (whichever occurs earlier) on the battery and motor.

The electric SUV, which has done exceedingly well in India, is powered by Tata’s cutting-edge Ziptron technology. The vehicle, which features a sinewy design, is known for its zippy performance, long-range, fast-charging capability, extended battery life, class-leading safety features and convenience of charging with its home-installed charging equipment.

Launched in India in January 2020, the Nexon EV has been a blockbuster success in its country of origin, with more than 4,500 Nexon EVs having been sold within a short span of time, capturing 65 percent of the Indian EV market.

Nexon couldn’t be entering Nepal at a better time. The recent policy announcements and the roadmap for EV adoption laid out by the Nepal government clearly show Nepal’s commitment to promoting EVs. Nepal has always been a strategic market for Tata Motors and the company has been eager to join the EV revolution here by playing a role similar to the one it played in the electrification journey of India–that is, by reinforcing its commitment towards developing sustainable and responsible EV solutions and thereby mainstreaming EVs.

Tata Motors will be setting up a complete EV ecosystem here and introducing their most successful EV products, along with an attractive service package, warranty on the battery, charging infrastructure with state-of-the-art DC chargers at strategic locations across the country, and innovative home-charging facilities, to name a few.

Futuristic design

The Nexon EV sports a bold and confident design that brings into play the IMPACT DESIGN 2.0 language. The new design further accentuates the already strong and purposeful stance of the Nexon, resulting in a road presence that makes it stand out in the crowd. The rugged-looking SUV carries plenty of blue elements to indicate it’s an EV and they also help differentiate it from the standard Nexon. On the inside, the Nexon EV cabin comes with a modern design, spacious interior, and premium sound management to deliver a comfortable, tranquil drive. The vehicle also comes with a 7-inch Harman infotainment system, which offers unmatched acoustics; it also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The ZConnect, Tata’s connected-car technology, offers 35 connected-car features such as safety alerts, remote commands, and location-based services, to name a few.

The dimensions of the Nexon EV are 3993 x 1811 x 1606 mm (length x width x height), which are similar to that of standard Nexon–meaning, the seating particulars and cabin space remain the same. Interestingly, the rear seats are not uplifted, as in most EVs, on account of the size of the battery, and the floorboard is low mounted–to provide more interior space. The wheelbase is 2498 mm; the ground clearance stands at 205 mm; the weight is 1400kg; and the boot space is a spacious 350 litres.

Zippy performance

The Nexon EV is powered by the state-of-the-art Ziptron Technology, which promises a zippy performance owing to its powerful and high-efficiency 129 PS permanent-magnet AC motor, which is powered by a high-capacity 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The motor produces 245 Nm of instant torque from standstill, enabling the Nexon EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.9 seconds. The EV comes with a best-in-industry dust and waterproof battery pack, which meets IP67 standards. This high-density battery pack is liquid-cooled to excel in Nepali weather conditions.

The vehicle comes with two drive mode options – Drive and Sport. It employs smart-drive tech features, such as Regenerative Braking to charge the battery while the vehicle is coasting, Hill Ascent and Descent Assist to make driving on slopes more convenient, and Smart Regen with the Creep feature, which allows users to tackle congested city traffic without fatigue.

Range and charging

The Nexon EV delivers an anxiety-free certified long range of more than 300+km on a single charge, with a real-world practical range of 200-250 km and zero emissions. When plugged into a fast DC charger, the Nexon EV will replenish 80 percent of its battery capacity within 60 minutes. In addition, the Nexon EV can be charged from any 15 amp plug point.

Cocooned safety

The Nexon EV retains all the elements that helped it secure a Global NCAP rating, and it comes with class-leading safety features–dual airbags, ABS with EBD, etc. The car has been rigorously tested: it has been driven for more than a million kilometres across the toughest terrains, covering high altitudes, unpaved roads, steep gradients, and under extreme weather conditions.

Variants

The Nexon EV is offered in three variants: the XM is priced at Rs 35,99,000; the XZ+ is priced at Rs 37,99,000; and the XZ+ LUX is priced at Rs 39,99,000. Besides the standard features on the XM variants, the XZ+ comes with additional features: a dual-tone roof, shark fin antenna, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, body-coloured door handles, rear AC vents, height-adjustable driver seat, height-adjustable front seat belts, auto fold ORVMs, USB port, 12V rear power outlet, rear wiper and wash system, boot lamp, leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, cooled and illuminated glove box, connectNext 7-inch floating dash-top (17.78 cm) touchscreen infotainment by Harman, four speakers, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Similarly, the top variant, XZ+ LUX, comes with the following added features: electric sunroof with tilt-function, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, adjustable rear seat headrest, rear seat central armrest with two cup holders, 60:40 split rear seats, and premium leatherette seat upholstery.

The Tata Nexon EV is available in three colour options: Moonlit Silver, Signature Teal Blue, and Glacier White.
