Volkswagen SUV Taigun launched with fanfare in Nepal
Posted On: October 4, 2021 By : Shuva Raj KhatriPooja International Nepal Pvt. Ltd, the authorized importer for Volkswagen vehicles in Nepal, launched the Volkswagen Taigun on Oct. 4 amidst a press conference held in Kathmandu. The new Taigun was unveiled by his Excellency, the Ambassador for the Federal Republic of Germany to Nepal, Dr Thomas Prinz.
The compact SUV has been launched in three variants: Comfortline, Highline, and Topline — at an introductory price of Rs 50.90 lakh (for Comfortline), Rs 65.90 (for Highline), and Rs 72.90 lakh (for Topline).

Speaking at the event, Bibek Bijukchhe, CEO of Pooja International Nepal Pvt. Ltd, said: “The all-new SUV Taigun is inspired by the popular Volkswagen SUV T-Cross, which has a strong fan base in the European and Chinese markets. Though powered by a 1.0 TSI engine, the Taigun has received all the special attributes that T-cross has, which makes it a ‘tried-and-tested’ vehicle, with no compromises regarding power, performance, safety, and comfort.”
Design
The exterior of the new SUVW Taigun features a muscular elevated bonnet supported by a 3D chrome step grille. The headlamps consist of LED lamps with integrated DRLs, and infinity LED taillamps are used on the rear.
The Taigun features a dual-tone premium interior with sporty red ambient lighting. On the dashboard are a 20.32-cm digital cockpit (largest in the segment) and a 25.6-cm VW play touchscreen infotainment system that can be wirelessly connected with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Performance
The new SUV Taigun is powered by a 1.0L turbocharged engine–mated either to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission–that generates 114 HP of power and a torque of 178 Nm. The company claims that the power and torque are the highest in its category of compact SUVs available in Nepal.
Compared to the earlier bulkier traditional engine, the compact TSI engine provides better mileage and power and produce lower emissions. The massive power from its light engine size and higher torque at lower RPM makes this engine highly responsive and fun to drive.
Specifications
The Taigun is specifically designed for the local driving conditions in India and Nepal. Volkswagen has adapted its international MQB platform–as the MQB AO IN–for the production of the Taigun in India. The vehicle comes with great ground clearance and a long wheelbase that ensure amazing ground stability–perfect for driving on Nepal’s roads.
