Tata Nepal has launched its much-awaited electric hatchback–the Tiago EV–at the 2023 NADA Auto Show, which runs until 17 September. The new Tiago EV is available in four variants: XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux, and it comes with two battery pack options: 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh. The company has introduced the electric hatchback with a starting price of Rs 21.99 lakh.
Design
The Tiago EV adopts the design elements from the facelifted Tiago model powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). Nevertheless, the electric vehicle showcases a revised front grille sporting an EV emblem, which extends to the projector headlamps equipped with daytime running lights (DRLs). The EV also boasts a two-tone roof and incorporates blue accents throughout its body. Furthermore, the car is offered in four different colours: Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Midnight Plum and Tropical Mist.
For the interior, the Tiago EV features leather-upholstered seats, with the driver’s seat offering height adjustability. The dashboard comes with a steering wheel equipped with mounted control buttons, while behind it lies a digital instrument cluster that shows both speedometer and tachometer readings. In terms of infotainment, the EV is outfitted with a 7-inch HARMAN touchscreen display that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Powertrain
The Tiago EV offers customers two battery options, both boasting an IP67 rating. The first option is a 19.2 kWh battery, available for the XE and XT variants. It is paired with a 45 kW PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and provides a maximum torque of 110 Nm. This battery offers a top range of 250 km. When using a 3.3 kW home charger, it takes approximately 5.1 hours to charge the EV from 10% to 100%. The same charge can be achieved in 2.6 hours with a 7.2 kW AC charger. Additionally, this battery is compatible with a DC fast charger. The second battery choice is a 24 kWh variant, used in the XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux models, and it is paired with a 55 kW PMSM. This setup generates a peak torque of 114 Nm and extends the maximum range to 315 km. Charging this battery from 10% to 100% takes around 6.4 hours with a 3.3 kW home charger or 3.6 hours using a 7.2 kW AC charger. Similar to the previous option, it is also compatible with a DC fast charger.
