Hyundai unveils the Exter at the 2023 NADA Auto Show

Hyundai has unveiled its highly-anticipated SUV, the Exter, at the 2023 NADA Auto Show, which will run until 17 September. The Exter will share its underpinnings with the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura. The SUV is highly expected to be offered with a petrol engine only, unlike the Indian variants, which are available in both petrol and CNG engine options. The company has also announced its plan to launch the SUV ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Design

The new Exter, which shares its underpinnings from the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura, will be the smallest SUV in the brand’s lineup. The SUV will measure 3815 mm in length, 1710 mm in width, and 1631 mm in height. Moreover, the Exter has a wheelbase of 2450 mm and a ground clearance of 185 mm.

The new Exter will adopt the company’s parametric design language, incorporating a split headlamp setup with H-shaped LED DRLs, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a shark-fin antenna, and H-shaped LED tail lights. The car might also be offered in both single-tone and dual-tone colours. For the interiors, the SUV gets the same cabin as the Grand i10 Nios, but it will feature an all-black interior, while the Grand i10 Nios gets a dual-tone interior. Likewise, the Exter will also come with a fully digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch MID that is only available on premium Hyundai models (like the i20 and the Verna).

Powertrain

Hyundai India has offered the SUV in two powertrain options: petrol and CNG engine options. However, in Nepal, the SUV is highly expected to come in a petrol engine option only. So, the SUV might come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces a peak power of 83 hp and a peak torque of 114 Nm. For transmission, the engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
